Halloween 2013: Tonto Angry

I’m home today (Friday) working from my new home office.  We moved over the weekend into a condo we’ve been building out for 6 months.  The upside was we were only moving 1 floor down, the downside was we decided to do everything ourselves and as it turns out, it wasn’t as easy as we thought.  But, we’re in and in love with our new place, marvelling each day at all of the thought and details we put into designing it. My craft room is still a raw space, so I haven’t been able to work on projects as usual, but I wanted to share a few pictures of our 2013 Halloween.

During our trip to Chicago, we stopped at the Disney store on Michigan Avenue and found a darling Tonto outfit for Judah complete with fur trim, and a pseudo leather pocket–on the sale rack.  Grandma made one Indian headdress and found another, but my son was having none of it.  It started out innocently enough on the evening of Halloween.

But the stormclouds quickly rolled in when Tonto realized something was amiss, equating his new headdress as a mechanism of torture.  Judah is not much of a tantrum-thrower, but when he does through a tantrum to wage against a particularly unjust event, the boiling point is when he throws his head back, unhinges his jaw, and seems to scream to the sky, “WWWhhhhyyyy meeeee???  WWWWhhhhhyyyy?????”  While tears stream down his face. halloween2The second attempt didn’t go any better.  Tonto angry.

Can’t an Indian just relax and enjoy his cookie?  This costume, by the way, depicts Tonto in his later, retired years, when he develops a Buddha belly on the reservation.

The idea was for my husband to dress as lone ranger with Judah as Tonto.  They did dress as Tonto and Lone Ranger, but just not at the same time.  These pictures were from our friend’s annual Halloween party last weekend.  I got the dress last year from a fabulous costume designer in New Jersey, her store is called Glamtastik on Etsy.  I reused it this year and added a Peacock headpiece, collar, gloves, and fan for a total transformation.  (How clever was this homemade jellyfish?)

I ended up getting 2nd place at the party for best costume, but only because we left early and Edward Scissor hands edged me out of my rightful 1st.

And here’s a look back at last year’s Halloween when Judah was 1 month shy of 1 year old.  He put up a fight with that Lion too, but as always we eventually got a big toothy grin.

Happy post-Halloween Weekend!
